3d printing with ABS

Finlly I figured out how to print from ABS filament with my sunhockey prusa i3

I'm so happy, ABS seems to be a lot better now compared to my PLA expreiences, my trick is simple, I just read it somewhere:

I took some acetone and soaked some ABS in it (actually filled a 100 ml bottle with about 50 ml acetone and ABS) took an old primary school paint brush and gently painted a layer of "liquid ABS" on my 90 degrees celsius heated bed, soon the acetone vaporised, and a tiny extra layer of ABS got stocked to my bed so badly
I can only remove it with a razor blade, on this I print 5 layers of rafting, after that the print can start and now it seems even bigger (for me at least) 4-6 hour prints came out fine.

I'm so happy just started to print plenty of things again :-)

Orange Pi

Just had a cheap Orange Pi PC on my shelf which I tought (until now) was just some thrown out $20 with it's charger and its case which I 3d printer earlier.

However this device was the best with my old 22" lcd monitor which only has old vga output so I had to buy a   HDMI converter, but for some reason my Raspberries neved filled the whole screen, but the Orange Pi does (I have no idea why)

So after a few months I got to the support site and found a few new distros, dowloaded the Mate VIVID and so far I can only say its awsome 😊

Pretty quick I just changed the admin password in a few clicks, installed Transmission torrent client in  terminal by

sudo apt-get install transmission

Now trying to set up samba so I can watch my dowloaded movies from Xmbc trough my LAN

Later I might also install a vnc server so I can start the downloads from my phone or whatever.

Edit: VNC server done, OSX network compatibility done, now I'll try to add FTP by

http://www.krizna.com/ubuntu/setup-ftp-server-on-ubuntu-14-04-vsftpd/

Finally found a good prupose for my Orange Pi ☺

Jessy adding fonts .ttf

I found this and worked well

http://www.raspberry-projects.com/pi/pi-operating-systems/raspbian/gui/fonts-2

Adding New Fonts
For full details on adding new fonts see here.

Copy a new TrueType fonts (*.ttf) font file in the directory /usr/share/fonts (for all users) or ~/.fonts (for a specific user, e.g. /home/pi/.fonts  – create the directory if necessary and note the dot').

You can test the new fonts are then available using Leafpad

Raspberry Pi Jessy connect to OSX

I found this tutorial at the adafruit's website which lead me to the following article ( http://4dc5.com/2012/06/12/setting-up-vnc-on-raspberry-pi-for-mac-access/ )

About how to connect your RPi to your network the OSX "friendly way" a.k.a. have it's drive at the Finder's sidebar and simply shared screen

Rasberry Pi Jessy keep the screen alive

I just wanted to turn of the screen blanking on my Raspberry Pi running Jessy, so I googled after it found this solution which worked for me:
"
sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

In that file, look for:
[SeatDefault]

and insert this line:
xserver-command=X -s 0 dpms
"
But a lot of people complained it did not work for them so in the case it would not work it might worth to try this too

"
sudo nano /etc/kbd/config
edit these values to:
BLANK_TIME=0
POWERDOWN_TIME=0

"

Raspberry Pi based Time-lapse camera (with USB battery pack)

So I had an older Raspberry Pi Model B laying in the drawer and my camera module just arrived recently from China.

Actually I ordered  the RPi in a package with a 8 Gb fake Kingstone SD card (which is slow as hell, I could write the noobs img @ around 3 MB/s,  so I think I'll use it to store some data on it) and 1A adapter (Sharp branded) with a cable.
Fortunately I have a 4 Gb class 4 Samsung SD card which I was able to write over 6 MB/s, seems to be decent quality to run my noobs img from it.
But because of the small size of my SD card I'll need some storage to store my pictures or videos, also it would be useful if I would be able to move my raw material to other devices, so I'll use an old also 4 Gb pen drive as my storage, which I also got for free from a friend (they won plenty of these in some promotion)
I'd also like to have a "mobile" camera, so I'll need a power source, which will be a 10600 mAh (@5 volts) battery pack, also since I won't have an Ethernet plug in my pocket, I'll use a cheap but well working edimax wifi adapter.
And of course I'll need some house for the Pi (which all ready have) and some holder for the camera module itself, which I'll probably 3d print or something like that.
All the materials I used (with costs)
- Raspberry Pi Model B with charging cable $35
- Camera module with ribbon cable $15
- Battery pack $20
- Edimax wifi $5
- Raspberry Pi house $5
- 4 Gb SD card free
- 4 Gb USB pen drive free
- Camera module holder free
So the total cost of materials was $80 depending on what you have laying around and how you "plan" to use your "camera system".
My plan is pretty simple:
For OS, I'll use the noobs, since that's the most supported (or at least seems to be for me :-) ), also the OS most well known OS for the RPi for me. But since I'm not planning to connect any screen to my RPi, I'll use the "console mode" of the noobs (also since I only use a simple Model B the GUI is a bit slow for me) to create my material with simple console command via SSH from my Android phone.
To check the results right after I made a picture/video I'll use samba to share the pen drive on the wifi.
Yeah the wifi will come from my phone (Android/share Internet via wifi), so I'll pre-set my RPi to automatically connect to it when it's in range, after it's connected I hope I can check the pen drive stacked to the RPi with my fresh pictures.
My final goal is to create a mobile time-lapse video recording device with 4 hours + recording time.
Will see :-)

First One

I just created this blog to share my experiences about 3d printing, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and my hubsan x4 style mini quadrocopter. I'm not a professional cnc /c++ / python programmer or anything like that just a hobby enthusiast :-)

Since I buy most of my stuff for my hobbies from china, I might will share some experiences about these suppliers too. (Yeah I know I'm a cheap bastard, but even this way I'm struggling to accomplish all of my ideas)

I hope my posts would be useful for someone once. ( At least for me to remember :D )
